The death toll in Yorkshire (UK) that has been linked to the Swine Flu virus has dramatically increased this week causing some panic amongst residents.  There were seven people in the last two weeks who have died and had confirmed Swine Flu.

In Yorkshire the number of residents who have died with confirmed Swine Flu totals sixteen.  Residents have been slightly reassured this week when the latest report from the Health Protection Agency revealed that numbers had fallen slightly – thought to be linked to the half term break which would have slowed the spread amongst children.

In a statement from Prof Paul Johnstone, regional director of public health, he confirmed the increase in deaths over the recent weeks and said “These patients were in at-risk groups and had significant underlying health problems.”

The total number of deaths in England now stands at 124  with the UK seeing a total of 182.  As of 8am 11th November 2009 the number of people hospitalised in England with Swine Flu is 785.  The total of worldwide deaths from Swine Flu now stands at 6592.
