H1N1 Outbreak In UK Causes 5 Schools To Close

H1N1 has caused 5 schools to close their doors to pupils across the UK.  The outbreak of Swine Flu has been confirmed in 27 people across the UK with the latest being two pupils from The Dolphin School in south London.  The two pupils have been in close contact with an already confirmed case of H1N1 in someone recently returned from Mexico.

As the WHO announces that Swine Flu might not be as widespread as first thought, it is still urging people to be vigilant.  It’s still not known if this strain of H1N1 will mutate further or combine with other strains to form a more powerful and potentially deadly form of the virus.

There was a reported 10% increase within 24 hours of new confirmed cases around the world yesterday.  Although most of the cases are relatively mild, a second wave is likely once the flu season comes around again in the autumn and winter months this year.  This could be much stronger than the first wave which is prompting fears of a higher death toll.

The leaflets from the UK government are due to reach every house in the UK over the next few years letting people know that the government is doing everything within its power to halt the spread.  It also shows you how you can help stop the spread with common sense advice.

There is much talk this week about how the government has overreacted to the Swine Flu outbreak, with people claiming that it has been hyped up not by the media but by the government itself.
